Botlierskop Game Reserve

Botlierskop Game Reserve ensures a truly unique safari experience with its location at the foothills of the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains and the beautiful surrounding beaches of the Indian Ocean. It is situated on a three thousand ha game farm and is comprise of over 26 species of animals and a wide variety of birds. The wildlife at the Reserve includes Rhino, Lion, Buffalo, elephant, giraffe and the rare black Impala. It is easily accessible from Cape Town and although it is a tiring four-hour drive, it’s a most scenic one. It is located on the world renowned Garden Route, just off the N2. The Game Reserve is set in a malaria-free area and is only a 25-minute drive away from George Airport. The Reserve also offers 4×4 drives, guided nature walks, elephant and horseback rides etc.

It gives its passengers the opportunity to experience the fynbos, proteas, bird and animal life, the waterfalls, the forest, four passes, seven tunnels and the panoramic picnic sight.

Herold Wines

Herold Wines on Cradock Farm is located at the foot of Cradock Peak, just beyond the top of the very scenic National Monument, the Montagu Pass. It is the first vineyard in the Garden Route to grow, produce and bottle certified wine on the property and can claim the status “Wine of Origin Outeniqua” on wines produced. The trip up the Montagu Pass takes about an hour of slow traveling. At the farm the winemaker personally hosts visitors in a quaint farm cottage, chatting about the farm and winemaking over a cup of tea before taking them to the cellar. Here the winemaking process gets explained and wine is available for tasting and purchase. Visitors are welcome to bring their picnic baskets and braai fires.

Outeniqua Transport Museum

In the museum, one will find a variety of thirteen steam locomotives including a narrow gauge, the Emil Kessler (Johannesburg’s’ first steam locomotive), the impressive GL Garrett together with carriages from a bygone era such as a coach from the Royal Train of 1947. After one has encountered the Museum, it is recommended to take a trip on the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe, South Africa’s only remaining steam train.
